MIDLAND--- The Midland Independent School District Transportation Department received a $739,059 grant from the Railroad Commission of Texas.

A presentation was held on Friday morning at the Transportation Complex in Midland.

The M.I.S.D. applied for the grant to purchase propane fueled school buses and set up propane fueling stations.

"It's good for the economy of Texas to be using the propane gas" says Texas Railroad Commissioner, David Porter.

"It's beneficial to the tax payers of the school district to reduce the operating cost by using propane rather than diesel fuel" says Porter.

The Midland Independent School District Transportation Department received the grant back in 2011.

Seven buses and propane fueling stations were in place in January 2012.
