Denver City Man Shot Dead After Walking in on Burglary in Roswell, NM

ROSWELL, NM -- A Denver City man is killed after walking in on a burglary in Roswell, NM.

    Roswell (NM) Police say that Saul Sanchez was in Roswell for a funeral when the incident occurred.

    Sanchez was walking to the home of the friend he was staying with in the 1500 block of West 3rd Street when he found a burglar in the home around 2 PM on December 11th.

    Police say that Sanchez confronted the burglar, but the burglar shot him dead.

    Detectives say that the burglar is about 6' feet tall and he was wearing a face mask and hoodie.

Detectives from the Roswell Police Department are actively investigating a burglary which was interrupted, leaving a man dead. The incident occurred Tuesday, December 11th, at approximately 2:04 p.m. on the 1500 block of West 3rd.

A man identified as Saul Sanchez from Denver City, Texas was staying at a friend's house. Mr. Sanchez had been in Roswell to attend a funeral. Mr. Sanchez walked into the house he was staying at and found a male subject inside the residence attempting to steal various items. When Mr. Sanchez confronted the male subject, the male subject shot and killed Mr. Saul Sanchez.

The Roswell Police Department sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Saul Sanchez.

Currently the only information RPD Detectives have regarding the suspect is he is approximately 6' tall and was concealing his identity with a face mask and hoodie.

Although some people would like to believe this incident is exactly like other incidents, this one is unique. Burglaries occur each day. Sadly, the burglary which happened yesterday ended tragically.

The Roswell Police remind citizens to be cautious and ensure all doors are locked. Citizens should not be scared, but informed and aware of surroundings.

The RPD would like to address information being passed around on social media.  The information on social media (Facebook) is uncorroborated.  If an individual has information regarding the burglary, contact the Roswell Police Department, or Crime Stoppers. Certain information posted on social media could be detrimental to the case. Again, Police strongly suggest anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the RPD (575-624-6770), or Crime Stoppers (1-888-594-8477) immediately. Crime Stoppers will pay $1,000.00 reward to anyone who has information leading to an arrest.
