BIG SPRING -- Two Big Spring councilmen are paying fines for taking illegal campaign contributions.

The Big Spring Herald reports that the Texas Ethics Commission has ordered Big Spring District 1 Councilman Marcus Fernandez and Big Spring District 3 Councilman Glen Carrigan to each pay a $200 fine.

The Texas Ethics Commission says that Fernandez accepted $1,200 from two corporations in 2011.

Those alleged donations were in violation of the Texas Election Code.

Carrigan is also accused of accepting illegal campaign contributions in 2011.

The T.E.C. says a complaint against Big Spring Mayor Tommy Duncan for campaign funds is still pending.

All 3 men repaid the illegal funds, and a Howard County grand jury refused to indict the men on criminal charges in 2011.

However, Big Spring resident Joyce Crooker filed a complaint against the men with the T.E.C. in March 2012.
