This new wildlife preserve features a handicap-accessible trail system that includes feeding stations, bird blinds, boardwalks, teaching platforms and a hawk tower. The main loop surrounds a 30-acre playa wetland that is home to many of Texas' native wildlife.
"In order to conserve it and preserve it, it's very important to all of West Texas, and any private land owner that has playas on their ranchers or farms, it's important to preserve them because these are the recharge zones for our ground waters," Elaine Magruder, President of the I-20 Wildlife Preserve said.
Bobcats, porcupines, badgers, foxes, rabbits, many butterfly and bird species are seen regularly at the preserve.
The preserve will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. October through February and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. March through September.
