PECOS COUNTY -- Construction crews will soon be repairing major roadways between Fort Stockton and Pecos.

TXDOT crews will be fog sealing a 2 mile stretch of U.S. 285 and a 4 mile stretch of F.M. 1776 near where the two roads meet northwest of Fort Stockton.

The work -- which will only be done during the day -- should start on Monday, February 4th and last until Thursday, February 7th.

As sections of the road are being worked on, they will be limited to one lane for both directions.

Flag crews will be set up at both ends of the work zone to stop traffic entirely, and traffic in alternating directions will follow a pilot vehicle through the zone.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible, since there will be substantial delays.

The project is designed to seal small cracks in the road surface.

Fog sealing work prevents the cracks from getting larger, which would allow moisture to seep into the base of the road.

TXDOT crews say that the project will prolong both the life of the road and the life of the asphalt.
