MIDLAND -- What started out as the vision of a couple Massachusetts teens is now a nationwide fund raiser. "Cell Phones for Soldiers" was established in an effort to make calling home for soldiers easier and less expensive.

Saturday, a local version of the fund raiser was held at the Midkiff Liberty Tax Service location. The phones collected range from old to new. The phone collected will be recycled and the money used from that will be used to buy calling cars for soldiers serving overseas.

"That eliminates the 15 dollar a minute service fee per minute to call home to your loved ones, so this is actually done for free," said Liberty Tax Service marketing manager John Wojtkun, Jr.

Liberty tax collects Cell Phones for Soldiers throughout the year at any Midland Liberty Tax location.
