The former Congresswoman was severely injured in a shooting rampage at a political event in Tucson, Arizona two years ago.

Six people died in the massacre and 13 were wounded, including Giffords.

In the ad released on Monday... she urges Congress to take action on stricter gun control laws.

An assault weapons ban appears unlikely.

But there is wide support for legislation on universal background checks.

Under current law.... background checks are not required for private transactions and purchases at gun shows.
