Small Business Saturday Continues Shopping Tradition

By: BBB
Updated: November 24, 2012

PERMIAN BASIN, Texas -- Small Business Saturday is Nov. 24, and Better Business Bureau is encouraging consumers to support small businesses in their area.

Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 by American Express. The purpose of this day is to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year, Black Friday weekend. In 2011, more than 100 million people supported the cause and shopped at local, independently owned businesses.

Any small business can participate in Small Business Saturday by simply being open. American Express is offering free resources to any business that wants to participate, including free personalized in-store signage and email and social media templates that can be used to promote a business's participation in Small Business Saturday.

In addition, qualifying businesses can create free ads that link to their website or their Facebook page. American Express will run these ads in a geo-targeted ad buy at no cost to the businesses.

Consumers are a key part to the success of any businesses. Without customers a business wouldn't thrive. By shopping or dining at a small business this Nov. 24, you are showing your support for small businesses everywhere. The more people and businesses that get involved, the bigger and more beneficial the day will be.
