UPDATE: Woman Killed In Carlsbad, NM Shooting

CARLSBAD, NM -- Carlsbad (NM) Police were investigating a shooting that claimed a woman's life on Thursday.

    Officers tell Big 2 that the shooting happened at a home in the 600 block of North 4th Street early Thursday morning.

    Police found Margarita Hernandez dead at the home around 4:30 AM Thursday.

    Hernandez, 40, had a single gunshot wound to her chest.

    The Carlsbad Current-Argus reports that the street where the shooting took place was blocked off with crime-scene tape for much of Thursday morning.

    Carlsbad Police told The Carlsbad Current-Argus on Thursday afternoon that the shooting was ruled as a suicide.

    Police continued to investigate the shooting Thursday evening.
