WEST ODESSA -- The West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department covers a large part of Ector County, and responding to fires across the area can be expensive.

Luckily, a West Texas industrial plant has stepped in to help.

The D.C.P. Midstream Goldsmith plant decided to hold a secret fundraising golf tournament for them on November 3rd.

D.C.P. Midstream workers then surprised the volunteer firefighters with a check for almost $7,800 on Wednesday.

"This was the first of what we hope to be an annual golf tournament," D.C.P. Midstream Goldsmith plant manager Mark Johnson told Big 2. "We had lots of great participation from lots of different vendors and a lot of the D.C.P. Midstream folks. We hope to be doing this moving forward and make this an annual event."

Ector County V.F.D. says that the money can help with repairs for their equipment, as well as taking a bite out of the fuel costs for getting their vehicles to different fires.
