75-Watt Light Bulbs Banned in 2013

By: CNN
Updated: January 2, 2013
The New Year means lights out for 75-watt light bulbs.

Beginning Tuesday, under federal law, 75-watt incandescent bulbs can no longer be produced or imported.

Retailers can still sell existing stock until they run out.

The government is gradually phasing out incandescent bulbs in favor of more energy-efficient, LEDs, halogens or compact fluorescent bulbs.

100-watt incandescent bulbs were retired last year.

Traditional 60 and 40-watt bulbs will be phased out in 2014.
