SANDERSON -- A Terrell County man is accused of causing a standoff at a Sanderson home.

Terrell County Sheriff Clint McDonald tells Big 2 that Richard Daniel Powers got into an argument with the aunt and uncle at a home in the 100 block of Wilkerson Street in Sanderson around 7:15 PM on January 14th.

Powers reportedly lived with his aunt and uncle at the home.

Powers' aunt and uncle -- who are in their 70s and 80s --  were taken away to safety.

However, McDonald says that Powers came to the back of the home and threatened to kill a deputy if he followed Powers inside.

Powers then barricaded himself inside the home for about 4 hours.

McDonald says Powers came out of the home around midnight Tuesday and surrendered without incident.

Now, Powers is charged with terroristic threats against a public servant and felon is possession of a firearm.

As of Tuesday evening, Powers was being held in the Terrell County jail on $300,000 bond.
