Survivor Of Triple Fatal Midland County Crash Shows Signs Of Improvement

MIDLAND COUNTY -- The single survivor from a triple fatal Midland County crash continues to improve at a West Texas hospital.

    Jesus Carballo was listed in fair condition at Midland Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.

    Carballo, 27, was the only survivor in the crash, which happened early on the morning of January 15th at F.M. 1788 and South County Road 160.

    Texas Department of Public Safety troopers say that Francisco Ortega of Odessa was likely trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone when his tan pickup truck smashed into in oncoming white welding truck.

    Ortega, 26, was killed in the crash.

    The driver of the welding truck -- 47-year-old Manuel Lorea of Odessa -- also died in the wreck, along with 27-year-old Joshua Sterns of New Caney.

    Troopers say that the crash remains under investigation.
