Annual MLK Midland Celebration Focusing on Community

MIDLAND -- Midland's Annual Martin Luther King Celebration kicking off with the theme "A Strong Past - A Decisive Present - A Bright Future" on Monday January 21,2013. The Midland Celebration will include a day of festivities beginning with a Community Service Event.  Negro Business and Professional Women's Club of Midland are partnering Keep Midland Beautiful for a landscape clean-up project around the MLK Community Center Complex at 9:00 a.m.  After that at 10:30 there'll be a free throw and 3 point shoot out in the gym at the center.  Sue Roseberry will be doing storytelling at 11:00 a.m. and we'll have exhibits and displays from local organizations up for viewing.  At noon, there will be free hot dogs and drinks.  That afternoon there's a movie at 2:00 PM "Our Friend Martin".

The symbolic Annual MLK march will take place at 6:15 beginning at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church to the Lee Freshman Auditorium.  That evening will be filled with local artists singing, stepping, dancing and speaking; including the MLK Community Youth Choir, UTPB's Step Team, Stephanie Sobic of KMID Big 2 News, West Texas Chapter Choir and the keynote speaker, Mr. Tommy Hudson - the Deputy City Manager of Midland.  The doors for the evening program will open at 6:00 PM.

It's all about coming together which is what the legacy and memory of Dr. King is all about. There is something for everyone!
