ODESSA--Gun Appreciation Day was celebrated all over the country Saturday as gun lovers protest President Barack Obama's proposal to create bans on certain guns and restrictions in other gun related areas.

For many west Texans, Gun Appreciation Day was celebrated at the Permian Basin Gun Show held at the Ector County Coliseum. At times the line stretched out of the building. Some people came out in protest while others came for the love of guns.

At the coliseum was a pretty hefty crowd and nearly everyone had at least one thing in common. They are totally against President Obama's gun control proposal.

Joy Loague was one of the people at the gun show.

She said she shoots her guns. "Recreational target, that's what I've been doing. I haven't hunted, cause I don't want to kill."

Gun collector and booth owner David Box said, "It's a hobby it's not a job, it's just something I really enjoy."

Both fear if President Obama's suggested gun control proposal becomes law they'll lose some of the things they enjoy. In that proposal, the President is asking for limits to be placed on ammunition sales and to outlaw certain high powered weapons.

Box said, it's not the guns the public should be concerned with.

"I don't feel like it's the guns fault, it's the idiot behind it," said Box.

Loague went on to say that most won't kill. However there are exceptions to that thought.

"If you do it's gonna be to protect yourself and to protect your family," said Loague.

It's clear the restriction on ammunition and bans on certain weapons is causing quite a bit of alarm there seems to be one portion of the potential ban that gun lovers can somewhat agree with. The point in the gun control proposal would require more intense background checks.

"Background checks, I don't have a problem with that, I think it should be really really strict way more strict than it is now," said Box

"I'm not worried about that at all cause I'm a law abiding citizen," said Loague.
