The U-S military is ending its policy of excluding women from combat roles.

CNN has learned that Defense Secretary Leon Panetta will make the announcement tomorrow and hopes the process will be complete by 2016.

However, officials say that doesn't mean every combat position will be available at once.

Each branch of the military will have to examine every job and assess how to integrate.

The Army and Marine Corps for example, have to examine physical standards and gender-neutral accommodations within combat units.
