REEVES COUNTY -- The Reeves County Sheriff's Office is re-opening the investigation into a nearly decade-old disappearance.

Reeves County Sheriff Art Granado tells Big 2 that deputies are re-opening a cold case surrounding Monica Carrasco's disappearance.

Carrasco was last seen at her home near Balmorhea around 11:30 PM on September 30, 2003.

Granado says he's re-opening the investigation so that Carrasco's family can determine what happened to their relative.

"I figured that the family needs some closure," Granado told Big 2. "They need some piece of mind of what happened to their relative."

Granado -- who was voted into office during the November 2012 elections -- has put an increased emphasis on solving cold cases in Reeves County.
