President Barack Obama's job council has been given a pink slip.

The 26-member panel of CEOs, labor leaders and economists created to spur job creation is shutting down.

President Obama created the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness on January of 2011.

It's charter mandated that it would expire after two years.

A White House official said Thursday the council's charter would not be renewed.

According to the White House web site, the last time the council met was over a year ago, on January 17, 2012.

The White House says President Obama is keeping the council's recommendations in mind as he begins a new effort to work with the business community.
