Curtis Johnson was indicted on murder charges on February 4th, and District Attorney Chief Investigator Joe Commander found and arrested Johnson hours later.
The murder indictment was reportedly the result of newly discovered evidence developed by Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland indicating that Johnson was the main actor in the November 11, 2011 murder of Evan Fitts.
Prosecutors say that Johnson, Fitts, Trevor Atchison and one other person were riding in a moving pickup along North Dixie Boulevard near Sherwood Park when Johnson and Atchison tried to rob Fitts.
At some point, Johnson allegedly shot Fitts, 19, in the back.
Fitts fell out of the pickup truck after the shooting.
Several other people bailed from the pickup truck, which eventually crashed into a house on East 49th Street.
Fitts later died at Medical Center Hospital.
Atchison, 20, was indicted on one count of murder and two counts of aggravated robbery on January 27, 2012.
Atchison was later found mentally incompetent to stand trial.
In addition to the shooting, Odessa Police say Atchison also stole a woman's purse at gunpoint at an alley in the 300 block on East 48th Street on November 8, 2011
The incidents reportedly happened while Atchison was wearing an ankle monitor for probation. The monitor showed that Atchison was away from his home at the time of the fatal shooting of Fitts.
Atchison was also accused of another robbery in the Permian High School parking lot in December 2010.
