New Judge Appointed To 5th Judicial District Bench In Eddy County, NM

CARLSBAD, NM -- Eddy County, NM has a new district judge.

    New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez appointed Raymond Romero to the bench at the 5th Judicial Court of Mew Mexico on February 13th.

    "Mr. Romero is a voice for law and order in Eddy County and he will continue to uphold the law as a member of the Fifth Judicial District Court bench," said Martinez after making the appointment.

    Romero -- a Carlsbad native -- is currently the Chief Deputy District Attorney's for the 5th Judicial District of New Mexico (which is headquartered in Carlsbad).

    Romero has worked for the 5th Judicial District of New Mexico since 1995.

    Romero has served as a member of the Eddy County Magistrate Court DWI/Drug Court and the Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team of Eddy County.

    Romero has also served on the board of the Eddy County Battered Family Shelter.
   
    Romero received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of New Mexico, and he earned his law degree at the University of Dayton School of Law.

    Romero is filling the seat on the bench that had belonged to the Honorable J. Richard brown.

    Brown retired in December 2012 in order to move to New Zealand.
