Midland College Dining Hall Expansion Put On Hold Due To Budget Concerns

MIDLAND -- The renovation and expansion of Midland College's Jack E. Brown Dining Hall has been put on hold due to budgetary issues.

The project was initially estimated to cost between $1.88 million and $2.94 million.

However, the cost has now risen to about $4.4 million.

Once bids were solicited by sub-contractors, Midland College realized that the project would cost more than they had anticipate.

Midland College President Steve Thomas says that the project will be put on hold since M.C. doesn't have money in their budget to cover the additional construction costs.

Thomas says the college will explore a few different options for the renovation.

However, Thomas emphasizes that M.C. is committed to getting the renovation done in the most efficient and economical manner.

Work on the project might not re-start until Summer 2014.
