Big 2 News and Midland Teachers Credit Union salute this weeks Hometown Hero.

When Royce "Booger" Pruit was first offered the job of Glasscock County Sheriff in 1962, he said he'd only be there for about six months.

Instead, he stayed 47 years before retiring in 2008. But even after retiring, Sheriff Booger was still there -- Mentoring other deputies, and sharing stories.

This past week, Sheriff Booger passed away, bringing hundreds of people to Garden City to pay their respects to a man who became a fixture not only in Glasscock County, but the country.

The longest serving Sheriff in American history.
