New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will expand the state's Medicaid program under President Obama's healthcare law.

Sources say Christie is expected to make the announcement Tuesday as he outlines his new budget.

Christie would become the eight GOP governor to sign on, despite Republican opposition to the law as a whole.

Under the plan, the total bill for the Medicaid expansion will be picked up by the federal government for the first three years.

After that, federal funding will phase down to 90%, with the remainder covered by states.

So far, 19 states and the District of Columbia have indicated they will accept the federal funds.
