U.S. 385 will be closed between TX 158 and on North Loop 338 for a few hours, starting at 8:30 AM on October 14th, so that a trench can be dug for a 48-inch water line.
The water line is part of the is part of the 76 mile T-Bar Water Pipeline project for Midland County Fresh Water Supply District No. 1.
Several pieces of equipment will have to cross the U.S. 385 near Gardendale for the project, and the road closure is meant to facilitate that.
Drivers will have to use TX 158, Loop 338 and either F.M. 554 in Gardendale (to the east) or F.M. 1936 (to the west) to bypass the closed roads.
Once complete, the pipeline will carry 20 million gallons of water a day from the 22,179 acre T-Bar Ranch Water Well Field in Winkler and Loving Counties to Midland.
The City of Midland owns the land and water rights at the T-Bar Ranch Water Field.
Once the pipeline is operational, water should flow to the Tall City uninterrupted for at least 40 years.
The $200 million project is Midland's largest ever public works project.
The whole project is expected to be completed by June 1, 2013.
