MERKEL -- Strokes often take a toll on their victims -- leaving many with memory loss, speech and motor problems.

Therapy for stroke victims can also be grueling, but Medical Center Hospital is working to make those therapy sessions less taxing with a special camp.

M.C.H.'s 2012 Refresh and Retreat Stroke Camp is underway from October 26th-28th at Camp Butman in Merkel.

Up to 10 stroke survivors (in all stages of recovery) can attend.

Attendees get room and board, time with family and caregivers and more.

"[Participants are] in all different stages of recovery," Paula Waldrop of Medical Center Hospital Stroke Services told Big 2. "We have some who have extreme Aphasia and some who you wouldn't even realize they have had a stroke. They have come so far."

If anyone would like to participate, they can call Medical Center Hospital at (432) 640-1132.
