CARLSBAD, NM -- The Eddy County Sheriff's Office is teaming with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to share date.

Eddy County Sheriff Ernest Mendoza announced Wednesday that the Eddy County Sheriff's Office has teamed with FBI's Law Enforcement National Data Exchange (N-DEx).

N-DEx is a national system that shares investigative information and removes barriers to information sharing.

The program is currently the only nationwide data sharing system where investigators can quickly access essential information gathered by other agencies across the country.

Since its formal launch in March 2011, more than 4,000 participating local, state, tribal and federal agencies have signed on with N-DEx.

Information on the system is accessible within seconds to help Deputies in Eddy County spot trends in local crime, help pinpoint trouble spots and determine if there are links between crimes across the state or county.

The secure, online format enhances an agency's ability to share reports with other investigators.

N-DEx contains sensitive, unclassified data and is designed to be a nationwide clearinghouse for criminal justice records.

It offers state-of-the-art analytical tools that allow officers to easily create charts and timelines, and to receive updates regarding places, people or events of interest.

The Eddy County Sheriff's Office is the first law enforcement agency in New Mexico to participate in N-DEx.
