Congressman Randy Neugebauer is heading back to Washington, D.C.

His only opponent on election night was Libertarian candidate Richard "Chip" Peterson.

Neugebauer was first elected to the 19th Congressional District of Texas in a special election in 2003.  He currently serves on three committees in Washington, D.C.  He is Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, and a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee.

In the Republican Primary Neugebauer defeated former Lubbock County Republican Chair Chris Winn to continue on to the main election.

Peterson chose to run to present people with an option that wasn't a part of the two main parties as well as to keep pressure on incumbent Neugebauer. His website indicated that he wanted to give people an option other than the incumbent and the "Democratic ('Socialist') Party."

Neugebauer will continue to serve the 19th Congressional District of Texas which covers Lubbock, Abilene, Big Spring and a total of 27 counties.
