Rabid Fox Killed After Attacking Animals, People In Carlsbad, NM

Officers say that a rabid fox bit 5 dogs and 2 people between 1:30 AM and 4 AM on November 2nd. A kitten was also found bitten to death in the area.
The incidents reportedly happened at homes in the 2500 block of Legion Street, the 2700 block of Legion Street and the 1200 block of North 8th Street.
The people who were bitten by the fox were reportedly tending to their animals when the fox attacked them.
Officers shot the rabid fox, but it was able to escape.
A homeowner in the 2700 block of Legion Street later shot and killed the fox while it had his dogs cornered in their doghouse.
Police say 4 of the 5 dogs bitten by the fox had to be euthanized, and 2 people are being treated for possible exposure to rabies.
Officers were urging residents to vaccinate their animals and report possibly rabid animals in their area.
