"They're going over whatever they can possibly find to help them determine who was involved in this and why," said Odessa Corporal Sherrie Carruth.
Carruth says an autopsy has been ordered for the victim, 29 year old John Anthony Munroy.
This is the second shooting to take place in the hotel parking lot in 2 months.
Now many residents and viewers are concerned with what they feel is a growing crime problem here in Odessa.
Liz Elkin Lemons commented on our Facebook page, "I wonder if it was a drug deal thing. Second shooting in the parking lot of the Elegante in as many weeks? Maybe a security presence is needed out there. Praying for his family and friends!"
Beau Daniel Stribling wrote, "I hate to sound like a broken record but its more than likely related to the boom. With the massive population swell, auto accidents, violent crimes, and drug related crimes are all happening at a greater rate than before the boom. Not everyone who moved here is bad, but there is proof that with the population surge we also got more fugitives and unregistered sex offenders as well."
"Whenever you see an influx of people into a community it brings all type of criminal activity here," said Carruth.
Carruth says while the boom does play a factor in the city's growing crime rate, the public's access to information could also be exaggerating the problem.
"I think people are noticing it more because the information is out there so much faster, and so much quicker," said Carruth and so people are thinking oh my gosh the sky is falling."
Carruth also explained that Odessa's crime rate is nothing compared to what it was the last time we experienced a boom, back in the 80's.
Big2 tried to speak with the hotel to see if management plan to beef up their security after these crimes, but multiple managers we talked to told us they had no comment.
