NTSB Holds News Conference Addressing Train Tragedy

MIDLAND--- The day after the devastating train tragedy carrying veterans to a banquet, the National Transportation Safety Board is trying to investigate what went wrong.
Mark Rosekind, a board member and spokesperson for the NTSB spoke at a news conference on Friday afternoon.
"We're going to be on scene and while we're on scene we will not determine probable cause" says Rosekind.
The NTSB says their main mission is to figure out the probable cause in order to prevent a tragedy like this from happening in the future.
"It's important for us to determine what safety recommendations need to be issued so this does not happen again" says Rosekind.
Robert Acceta is assigned as the lead investigator in the accident and with 20 years experience working for the NTSB he will put together a team to investigate several aspects of the crash.
Questions have been going through peoples' minds regarding why the tragedy took place, and one of those questions being why there wasn't a siren that went off as a warning ahead of time.
"This is a quiet zone which means there is a restriction about using a horn and other kind of warnings so we're going to looking to see what role that might have played during the accident" says Rosekind.
A Sheriff's cruiser was parked behind the float at the time of the incident and the dash camera will now be used by the investigators.
Investigators are now conducting investigations on the driver of truck including his condition, qualifications and training.
An investigation will also be done on the parade route itself, as well as if the train company was warned about the parade in the first place.
Another news conference will be held tomorrow however, the time has not yet been determined.
