Possible Candidates to Replace Tommy Tuberville at Texas Tech

Updated: December 9, 2012
It would be hard to think that the first phone call would not go to Baylor head coach Art Briles. The former Tech assistant and alum has proven himself in Waco, but also signed another contract extension with a very expensive buy-out. But Briles will be willing to listen to Tech's offer, if and when it comes.

Kliff Kingsbury needs no introduction to Tech football fans. The former Red Raider quarterback threw for over 12,000 yards in a Tech uniform. And as a coach, has developed record-setting quarterback Case Keenum at Houston and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M. Coaching experience might be the only thing holding back Tech officials, but Kingsbury would be a popular choice with the fan base.

Chad Morris might be the dark horse candidate with the most to offer, but with least name-recognition among fans. Morris is the offensive coordinator at Clemson but spent years winning state titles at Lake Travis High School in Austin, coaching Tech's heir apparent quarterback Michael Brewer. He knows Texas recruiting and runs the type of offense Tech fans have been wishing for since Mike Leach was fired.

These are our top three choices. Let us know what you think and post your own choices. As Kirby Hocutt said Saturday, there's plenty of good ones out there who will want to coach the Red Raiders.
