MIDLAND COUNTY -- Walking around Mr. W's you can see a steady stream of customers coming in and looking through their fireworks.

The majority of people were picking up smaller firecrackers: poppers and spark shooters. Some people are going bigger though, buying artillery shells and larger items.

The stands opened on December 26th, but this weekend is when things really start to pick up.  Mr. W's says they plan on selling around $50,000 to $100,000 in fireworks during this holiday.  Still, that's about half as much as they sell during the 4th of July.

If you are going to shoot off fireworks, you need to be careful.

Make sure your county doesn't have an active burn ban, and remember that you can't shoot off any fireworks within city limits in Midland and Odessa. It's against city law.

You also need a landowners permission, and make sure you have water with you as you shoot, should something spark.
