P.E.T.A. Offers Tips To Keep Pets Warm During Winter Weather

MIDLAND -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (P.E.T.A.) is offering Midlanders some tips to help protect their pets during harsh winter weather.

P.E.T.A. says that animals suffer from frostbite if kept outside too long , regardless of how much fur they have.

P.E.T.A. recommends that pet owner keep all animals inside when it's cold.

Pet owners should pay special attention to smaller pets -- who sometimes climb under the hoods of cars to be near warm engines, and are badly injured or killed when the car is started.

Pet owners should also wipe off their animals' feet and stomachs after they come in from the snow -- since salt and other chemicals can make animals sick if they ingest them.

Pet owners should also try to increase their animals' food rations during the winter months, since animals tend to burn more calories in an effort to stay warm.
