MIDLAND---More than 4,000 people were stuck on the busted Carnival cruise ship named 'Triumph' and on Friday evening, West Texas residents who were passengers made it back home.

This story made national headlines and some are even calling it "the cruise from hell".

A fire knocked out the cruise's engine about 150 miles off Mexico's peninsula over the weekend, leaving passengers and loved ones back home not knowing what would happen.

Lots of happy faces were at the Midland International Airport as people greeted their loved ones who made it home at last.

Greta Olivier was one of the passengers and says "because of all the prayers and the support, that's why we can come home today".

People at the airport held signs saying "we missed you" and "we love you" while anxiously awaiting their loved ones.

"Not knowing what's going on is really a terrible experience" says Greta's husband, McConnell Olivier.

This all comes after an engine fire that took place on Sunday, leaving the cruise ship without power while drifting in the Gulf of Mexico.

Olivier says that they waited for hours to get food, that got worse the longer the trip carried on.

But mainly Olivier talked about relief and the happiness that came from all 4,000 passengers after seeing land on Friday.

The vessel was towed into Mobile, Alabama and on Friday evening, passengers finally reunited with their loved ones.
