EDDY COUNTY, NM -- A drunk driver is accused of leading law enforcement on a prolonged chase in southeast New Mexico.

Jason Myer was arrested early on the morning of February 28th.

Eddy County Sheriff Scott London says that his office got a call from Lea County law enforcement around 6:30 AM on February 28th.

The call alerted deputies that an older-model maroon Chevrolet Blazer -- which was reportedly driven by Myer -- was heading westbound on U.S. 62-180 at about 100 miles per hour and swerving recklessly.

Deputies tried to pull over the Blazer, but Myer wouldn't stop.

Deputies started a high speed chase and even reportedly tried to spike the vehicle, but they couldn't catch up to the Blazer before it reached Carlsbad.

Myer -- who's from Hobbs -- reportedly sped through Carlsbad and turned toward Artesia, with Carlsbad Police entering into the chase.

Deputies say the Blazer hit another vehicle at the intersection of Canal Street and Pierce Street, and at least one person was injured.

Myer then allegedly sped off towards Artesia on U.S. 285.

The chase ended when the Blazer flipped over near mile marker 44 of U.S. 285 west of Carlsbad.

Deputies detained Myer, 28, and he was rushed to Carlsbad Medical Center -- where he was evaluated and released before being arrested.

Now, Myer is charged with aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, aggravated driving while intoxicated, failure to give immediate notice of an accident and driving without insurance.

As of Friday afternoon, Myer was being held in the Eddy County Detention Center without a posted bond.
