Republicans have introduced a bill to soften the blow of forced federal spending cuts to the Defense department.
The across-the-board cuts took effect Friday night.
Assuming Congress doesn't do anything to end them, this new bill would allow the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs to shift money to different programs to lessen the pain.
It would not give the departments any extra money or allow them to avoid the cuts.
There are also provisions for the FBI, border security, embassy security, federal prisons and weather satellite launches.
The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives as a spending bill to fund the government through the end of September.
A temporary spending measure expires March 27th.
