ECISD Makes Cuts To Teen Parent Prorgams

The district is redesigning two programs to try and cut costs. The Teen Parent Center will continue to offer daycare and support to pregnant students, but it will be based on different campuses instead of its own location. The daycare will now be at Zavala Elementary and busing will be provided. Teen parents too young for high school will get home instruction.
The Student Assistance Services Department -- serving as case managers for teen parents -- will take over education support and parent training. 35 positions will be eliminated, although the district will try to move those people into other roles.
The changes will ultimately save $3 million, which is enough to keep more than 60 teachers.
