MIDLAND -- Friday was a landmark day for a Midland Nature Preserve.

Earlier this week, Texas Parks and Wildlife went to the Interstate 20 Wildlife Preserve, and walked through the site. Now, they have finalized the paperwork to provide a $1 million matching grant to the group. That will go towards improvements, a boardwalk in the playa, and more.

"The building project will start soon," said Interstate 20 Wildlife Preserve President Elaine Magruder. "It will open the preserve to have better access to the public once construction is complete."

The group says they are still working to raise more money for perimeter fencing. Students are also going to the site, and using it as part of their research.
