Odessa Man Indicted For Defrauding Government

MIDLAND -- A chemical dependency counselor from Odessa has been accused of trying to defraud the federal government.
A federal indictment says that Ismael Hernandez Sanchez billed the government for counseling inmates. But the government claims that Sanchez never provided the counseling. The indictment says that Sanchez was supposed to be working with inmates being supervised by the Dismas Charities halfway house in Midland in 2009 when the alleged fraud took place.
Now Sanchez is facing six charges of making false claims. He was arrested Friday, and he faces up to 5 years in prison if convicted.
