AUSTIN -- In 2009, there were 100,000 car crashes in Texas where the driver was distracted. More than 400 people died in those crashes.

In many cases, those distracted driving crashes were due to texting while driving -- which is a growing problem. But that's not the only kind of distracted driving.

"This morning, driving to work, i saw a lady putting eyeshadow on," Gene Powell of TXDOT told Big 2. "I kid you not. Eating, playing with the radio. I've seen people read books. All of these are distracted driving."

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and TXDOT wants to lower those distracted driving statistics --especially since distracted driving is so easy to prevent.
