RUIDOSO, NM -- A 2,000-acre grass fire in Ruidoso burned four homes Sunday, and led to dozens of evacuations.

The White Fire started Sunday afternoon and has since been pushed along by fierce winds.

Fire crews were working Sunday evening to protect the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack, Homestead Acres, and lower Eagle Creek.

As of Sunday evening, areas on the north side of U.S. 70 have been evacuated in Ruidoso Downs and by the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and Casino. More evacuations are possible. Residents have been going to Gateway Church to wait out the fire.
