ODESSA - The ECISD Board of Trustees met for about an hour Wednesday. The special meeting was held  to discuss the contracts of the 8 employees who didn't resign when their position was cut.

Before the meeting started, 4 of those employees ended up resigning. As for the other 4, their contracts will not be renewed for next school year. The rest will be terminated.

The good news for those employees and others who have been layed off., ECISD is working extremely hard to find them other positions within the school district.

When they first heard of the budget shortfall, ECISD had a number in mind of what would be a worst case scenario. It turns out that the projected $27 million was twice the amount of the number they were working with.

However, ECISD feels they have done enough and they don't think they'll need more layoffs.

"From everything we're hearing from folks in Austin, who are monitoring the situation daily giving us updates,  we are positioned very well for what the state does," said ECISD Director of Communication Mike Adkins. "Of course the state has not set a budget yet and they won't until probably this summer and we'll have to evaluate where we are as soon as we get something official from them. But for now we're not planning to do anything else. We feel like we're done. We're just going move forward with becoming a world class leader in education."

ECISD played out many different scenarios when deciding how to cut spending. They said this was the best choice, because it has the least impact on the classroom.
