Fire fighters were working to monitor and put out all the hotspots into Monday. The Texas Forest Service reports that 16,500 acres were burned and 34 homes were lost in the Hickman fire, which is now 98 percent contained. While these figures are devastating, Midland County Fire Marshall Dale Little says things could have been much worse.
"If it hadn't have been for the surrounding communities that came together to help, it could have been much more devastating that it was." Little told Big 2.
Midland County Judge Mike Bradford has signed a Disaster Declaration. A Type 1 Incident Management Team has also come in to help with paperwork and to help purchase any materials needed by local fire departments and communities.
