AUSTIN -- State Senator Kel Seliger has passed a bill meant to keep radioactive waste from other countries away from Andrews County.

Right now, the Waste Control Specialists site is preparing to dispose of low-level radioactive waste from Texas and numerous other states.

Now, Senate Bill 1504 would make it illegal to accept waste from other countries, and  would charge a 20 percent surcharge for waste that comes from outside the state. Seliger says that surcharge would bring extra money for the state.

Now, the bill moves to the Texas House.
