Man Arrested For Drive-By Shooting In Hobbs

HOBBS -- Hobbs Police have arrested a man for a drive-by shooting.

    Hobbs Police Officers were called to a report of shots fired in the 1200 block of West Lea St around 2 PM on Monday. Officers found 17-year-old Jesus Mendoza on the scene, suffering from a gunshot wound. Mendoza was taken to the emergency room, before being flown to Lubbock for treatment.

    Meanwhile, police have made an arrest in the case. Carlos Navarette, 18, turned himself in to authorities Tuesday afternoon. Police say Navarette drove down the street and shot at Mendoza's vehicle several times.

    Navarette is charged with shooting from a motor vehicle and causing bodily harm, which is a 2nd degree felony. He's being held on $500,000 bond.
