LOVINGTON -- Crews in Lea County have stopped a wildfire from spreading.

The Martin 2 fire broke out Monday morning southwest of Lovington. It quickly spread, jumping NM 238 and NM 483. Crews had to close those roads and NM 18 south of Lovington, as they fought the flames.

Late Monday afternoon, crews were able to stop the fire at NM 18. That road has re-opened between Lovington and Hobbs.

Meanwhile, crews continue to build containment lines and clean up hot spots. They say they're worried about the fire sparking up again Tuesday.

The blaze has burned 25,000 acres so far.
