Andrews Voters Approve Bond, Sales Tax For Truck Reliever Route

ANDREWS -- In Andrews, voters approved two issues on the May ballot that could have a big impact on the city.

As work in the oil field has picked up, so has truck traffic. Now voters have decided to raise the sales tax in Andrews by 25 cents. That money will be used to fund a truck reliever route around the city, which will stretch 13 miles.

The measure passed with 57 percent of the vote. 389 people voted for the measure, while 289 voted against it.

Voters also passed a $33 million bond for Andrews I.S.D. The district could use that money to offset some of the proposed budget cuts out of Austin.
