MIDLAND -- A man is accused of hurting a police officer while he was trying to escape a Midland hospital.

Bobby Louis Houston II, 36, was arrested on Monday. According to an arrest affidavit, Houston was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with seizures. At some point, Houston decided he wanted to leave, but police were called.

Police say that Houston tore out his I.V. in the emergency room, and this caused his hand to start bleeding everywhere. The officers tried to get him to Houston down, but police say he shoved them and eventually they had to handcuff him.

Police say Houston got even angrier after he was handcuffed. He eventually calmed down when he was medicated. Houston was then recommended for a mental evaluation.

Houston is charged with assault of a public servant and retaliation. He's being held on $20,000 bond.
