Assistant City Manager of Midland, Jim Nichols, along with representatives from the Midland Development Corporation (MDC) and the Downtown Midland Management District (DMMD), have been in Charlotte, North Carolina since Thursday, attending the International Downtown Association's Fall Conference .
Nichols, who is one of the leaders in the push to develop downtown tells Big 2 News, that although they have not yet officially begun advertising the position, he's made it clear to convention attendees Midland will soon be taking applications.
Over the weekend, the team from Midland, who represents the coalition that established the position, have been busy learning all they can about downtown development from experts and leaders who have experienced similar growth before, including cities like Seattle. They have attended many of the workshops, luncheons and receptions that have included topics like parking technologies.
In addition to the City, the MDC and the DMMD, the coalition to develop downtown Midland includes the Midland Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ), the Midland Chamber of Commerce and Midland County.
The convention ends today.
