Midland - The wind didn't stop some golfers from teeing up for a good cause this afternoon. Chapter 35 of the International Right of Way Association hosted their annual charity golf tournament Thursday at Nueva Vista.

All the money raised goes to the Doug Damron Memorial Scholarship Fund. For local students, that could mean a big chunk of college tuition. "Last year we gave out 22 scholarships totaling $15,000. It looks like this year, we're going to have the ability to give out even more scholarships," says Rick Doehne, Treasurer of IRWA, Chapter 35.

The scholarships go to well-rounded high school seniors from all over West Texas. Everyone is encouraged to apply.

The scholarship was named after the late Doug Damron, a long time member of the IRWA, a University Lands employee, and an outstanding member of the community.
